These new images give fans lots to look forward to, as Paranormal Activity reinvents itself as a more explorative, less straightforward family-haunting franchise. Fans of the found-footage horror series may be glad to see the long-worn tropes of the original poltergeist-centric films finally left behind in search of a fresh, new theme. It remains to be seen just how paranormal things get in this new Paranormal Activity movie, but the recent trailer reveals there may be demonic possessions at play. Paranormal Activity: Next Of Kin looks to be a horror that plays with culture and tradition, much like the recent success Midsommar, with perhaps a sprinkling of M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village. It’s a bold, new direction for the franchise, but one that promises to be just as chilling and full of jump-worthy scares. It also comes just in time for Halloween, with the title launching at the end of this month.
The Fast & Furious crew thanking Johnson for standing up to Diesel also lends some credence to the speculation that the latter’s position as producer has seen him build too large an ego on the set of the films. Diesel certainly wouldn’t be the only star to utilize their producer powers to seize control of a film, with Tom Cruise notably having taken similar steps on the failed Mummy reboot and Mission: Impossible sequels. With Johnson having expressed a few months back he wishes the crew well on the final two mainline installments, one can hope a sequel to Hobbs & Shaw will finally get off the ground in the near future.
Having previously worked with director Denis Villeneuve on Blade Runner 2049, Bautista joined the star-studded Dune cast as Glossu Rabban, the nephew of Stellan Skarsgård’s menacing Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. The film has been released across much of the world but is still upcoming in many of the largest markets, including the US and China. Despite its limited release, the film has grossed over $100 million at the box office so far, putting it well on its way to getting a sequel approved. Though some have criticized certain elements of the film, Dune has been largely praised by critics, who have cited the performances as one of the film’s best features.
