After a bit of a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Batman is set to head into theaters next spring, bringing a brand new take on the DC Comics mythos. The film will feature a star-studded ensemble, including Zoe Kravitz, who will be bringing to life Selina Kyle / Catwoman, and whose take on the character has already become a fan favorite just off of seconds of footage. in a recent interview with AnotherMag, Kravitz spoke about the pressure and expectations of joining such a massive project, and teased a bit of how director and co-writer Matt Reeves is approaching the film.”[The fans] are [hardcore], and because I respect them so much I chose not to think about them when making the movie,” Kravitz explained. “If I’m thinking about wanting everyone to like it and wanting all the fans to like it, I’m not going to actually bring a real person to life. Matt wrote a really interesting story with a complex character, and the relationships are really interesting. All I wanted to do was honour that story.”
We are only a couple of weeks away from the DC animated adaptation of Injustice releasing, and ahead of that, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has shared several news images from the film. Compared to the previous trailers, it’s a relatively minor look at what’s to come, but it does feature new looks at characters like Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, and Harley Quinn. The movie is inspired by the Injustice: Gods Among Us video game from NetherRealm Venom Studios as well as DC’s comic based on the game, Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year One. According to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, “the animated film Injustice finds an alternate world gone mad – where The Joker has duped Superman into killing Lois Lane, sending the Man of Steel on a deadly rampage. Unhinged, Superman decides to take control of the Earth for humanity’s own good. Determined to stop him, Batman creates a team of like-minded, freedom-fighting heroes. But when Super Heroes go to war, can the world survive?”
Just over three years ago, Jurnee Smollett was cast as Dinah Lance / Black Canary in Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), marking the character’s biggest foray yet onto the big screen. It’s safe to say that Smollett left her stamp on the iconic DC Comics character, with news arriving last month that she plans to reprise her role in a Black Canary solo film, which is currently in development for HBO Max. This week, Smollett’s take on the character received another honor — being part of a clue on Jeopardy!. On the Tuesday, September 28th episode of the hit syndicated game show, Smollett’s take on Black Canary was referenced in a clue about Birds of Prey, with the answer being “Who is Harley Quinn?”.
