Some people think robots can help decrease the amount of sexual violence that occurs regularly, according to a recent report from the Foundation for Responsible Robotics. No, I’m not talking about “Robo-Cop” or the police robot URL from “Futurama.” In fact, the robots in question are sex robots, or sexbots. The report says “there are a few who believe that they could help in therapeutic prevention to stop pedophiles offending or reoffending.”
With the highest self-identified LGBTQ population in the U.S., Washington, D.C. is bound to have a bustling queer scene. A sophomore at the University of Maryland, College Park said she would not feel comfortable allowing the college to handle her case if she was sexually assaulted. The University of Maryland, as well as colleges around the country that accept government funding, are required to follow the Department of Education’s Title IX rules and procedures. Title IX requires colleges to provide resources for students, faculty and staff who have been sexually assaulted or fall victim to sex discrimination. A person’s sexual behavior can depend on various factors from economic status, to peer pressure to even the honest pursuit of finding the one for them. In the U.S., people experience 7.2 partners in their lifetime according to a survey conducted by SuperDrug, a health and beauty retailer in the United Kingdom. SuperDrug surveyed 2,000 people in the U.S. and the U.K. and found that Americans experience more sexual partners in their lifetime. The average number of sexual partners a person has varies by the country and in the U.S., even by state.
For century’s gun violence has been a major issue in America. In 1990, the nation’s capital was better known as, murder capital, with a recorded 472 homicides. The next year, the number went up to 482 homicides, ranking D.C. as the city with the most homicides nationwide.
